The Scope
Boden were originally approached by North Devon District Scouts who use Eden Park Academy for their weekly club. The Scouts reported that the MUGA lighting at the school was broken, and because of this they were confined to indoor activities in the darker winter months.
The Scouts put us in contact with the school who commented that the lights being broken also affected them as they were unable to use the outside areas in the afternoons when it was dark. Having the lights fixed would also allow them to offer the space to other community groups and clubs who could provide more evening activities for the local area.
The Solution
Rather than just fixing the existing lights, Boden agreed with Eden Park that new LED light fittings would provide a more modern and reliable solution.
The first step was to review the existing distribution board and wiring to ensure they could support the new lighting requirements. Boden discovered that a new distribution board was needed, and replaced this, in addition to updating the wiring.
The next step was to replace the lights and the light fittings with the new LED solution. To prevent working at height and to ensure a safe working environment, Boden contacted the manufacturer of the lights to purchase a key and winch to allow the lighting columns to be lowered.
While on site, we also completed additional work, as upon inspection of the sports area floor our team noticed substantial weed infestation rendering the area slippery and dangerous to use. We removed the moss to allow for it to be a safe play area once again.
For the final stage of the project the lights and fittings were replaced. Boden later attended site to commission the system, adjust the lights and hand everything back over to the school.
